Concessioni Autostradali Venete – CAV S.p.A. is an Italian company of the Anas S.p.A. group which operates in the concession management sector for motorway sections. This station manages more than 74 km of network, including the A4-Passante di Mestre motorway, the Venice-Padua section, the A57-Mestre ring road and the junction for Venice Marco Polo airport.

BRIEF

Equip the A4-Passante di Mestre motorway with a WIM (weight-in-motion) system capable of measuring various vehicle parameters, such as: weight, speed, number of axles, distance between axles, class of vehicles, etc. for monitoring the loads on infrastructures. In the event of infringements, the subsequent legal measurement of overloaded vehicles can be carried out from the data collected.

OUR WORK

The T.net WIM project created for CAV S.p.A. is a state-of-the-art high-speed dynamic weighing system that meets various criteria for detecting traffic and weight. Thanks to the use of components such as: WIM sensors, smart cameras, inductive circuits and also the edge computing functions and intelligent algorithms, the system achieves a high level of accuracy, reliability and simplicity. It is applicable to basic installations on a single lane, as well as for complex multi-lane environments with heavy traffic, such as the passer-by chosen by CAV. The supplied software allows the configuration, display and management of information from the sensors and camera installed. The WIM system is then used in order to identify the vehicle that committed the infringement and transmit the corresponding images to the operations room which can then decide the actions and sanctions to be taken.

RESULTS

Since December 2019, the installation carried out by T.net on the selected motorway section allows CAV to:

 

  • Identify vehicles in transit using automatic license plate recognition (ANPR camera) and / or the panoramic image (panoramic cameras);
  • Detect vehicle data (gross vehicle weight, axle load, wheel load, twin tires, vehicle type / category, vehicle speed, distance, vehicle dimensions) and any vehicle overweight, both for limited and high speeds;
  • Have records stored locally and remotely, for police or third-party evaluation, through the IAM middleware infrastructure of the Infobroker Application, with improved effectiveness thanks to the infrastructure monitoring software;
  • Preselection and direct intervention.
