Client: Consorzio Plemmirio

The Plemmirio Consortium extends a few kilometers south of the city of Syracuse and is a protected marine area. This is spread over a perimeter of 14.35 km of coastline, with an area of 2,429 hectares of protected sea.

BRIEF

The Consortium had an obsolete network and storage infrastructure, an unsatisfactory security system and needed a connection with the Port Authority of Syracuse, to make the control of the seabed belonging to the protected marine area more efficient.

OUR WORK

T.net has developed several projects aimed at modernizing network infrastructure, thanks to Cisco equipment (Switch 3750V2) and the supply of a Cisco firewall (Next Generation ASA 5512-CX). In addition, a Cisco Meraki MR 18 Access Point was used and a radio link was created to the Syracuse Harbor Master’s Office. For the surveillance and environmental monitoring of the marine area, the Milestone suite was chosen, which is a software for managing the video surveillance system with a client created for the Harbor Master’s Office. By integrating the Milestone management solution with different vendors for the construction of radio links in the most remote points of the marine area, the Port Authority and the connections to the Data Center where a Cisco ExpressPod System has been installed in which the Cisco UCS servers and Netapp Storage are used for the secure storage of images, T.net has managed to offer Plemmirio an integrated solution for processing, networking, management, virtualization and access to storage, thus relying on a single architecture highly effective, performing and robust. This solution has been so successful that it has turned into a case study.

Subsequently, T.net continued to provide state-of-the-art solutions to the organization, such as the Fujitsu RX2530 M5 Server Rack and NetApp Storage.

RESULTS

The consortium’s network infrastructure was consolidated into a more manageable and reliable solution. The control of the protected seabed is more efficient thanks to the integration with the Harbor Master’s Office, the timely response to active alarms, the ability to constantly access video recordings of critical situations, the ease of navigation between cameras installed on a large area geographic and proactive monitoring of multiple cameras at the same time. Multiple users can connect to the system with different access credentials, accessing from any device, even on the move.
